Ballymacrickett on Everest!

12th Oct 2022

John and the group made their way to an observatory which is at 5000m above sea level. This was set up in 1988 to conduct research on high altitude living, farming and sustainability. For more information on the observatory click here. The observatory is a pyramid shape, which is a bit different for Nepal. As well as hosting scientists, they allow trekkers to stay.

The group were really feeling the altitude. They found it difficult to sleep well due to lower oxygen levels. Most have had sore heads and some had difficulty breathing, coughing etc. The weather had also turned and they were cold and damp the whole time.

With a bit of luck, there was a break in the weather on Saturday and so John and the group decided to do the final climb. Finally, they arrived at base camp on Sunday afternoon! Pictured is John flying our Ballymacrickett flag proudly. The group returned to the observatory for Sunday night.
