Mr. Doherty's trip to Everest Base Camp
John Doherty, father of Edward in p6, came to assembly this week to tell the children all about his trip to Everest Base Camp. He left Belfast on Wednesday 28th September and arrived in Kathmandu on Thursday 29th. Kathmandu is 4 hours and 45 min ahead. He and the other trekkers will spend a few days here to acclimatise to the altitude. Kathmandu is 1400m about sea level, Belfast is 103m!
The group has a Sherpa that will be their guide. Later today, Friday 30th, if the weather is ok, John will get a short flight to Lukla, which is a small village, 2850m above sea level. Trekking will start tomorrow.
We will keep you posted on John's progress!
